Club volunteers
All of our coaches, officials, committee members and parent helpers volunteer their time for the benefit of our club, and it wouldn't be possible to run it without their dedication and commitment.

Our Coaches

Athletics Coach - Middle Distance
Bob Kimber
Bob first got into athletics 40+ years ago after watching the London Marathon on TV, and he joined CATs in 2002 on his 60th birthday. He particularly enjoys any of the big cross country championships, and his proudest achievement has been coaching an English Schools cross country winner. His advice to athletes is to enjoy your running, come to training regularly and always remember that you are part of a training group - work with your teammates to achieve success.

Athletics Coach - Sprints
Upali Ukwatte Kankanamage
Upali joined CATs as a coach in 2003, after over a decade competing at both national and international level. In 1980, he participated in the Moscow Olympics final qualifying round in the 400m relay, and went on to represent Sri Lanka as part of the 400m relay team in the 1982 Asian Games. Upali now enjoys coaching novice athletes, drawing on his own experience and his IAAF and UKA coaching qualifications, and is proud that five of his athletes have set club records.

Athletics Coach - Jumps
Warren Page
Warren was a sprints/jumps and 800m competitor in his youth, and joined CATs in 2009 when his son became a member of the Club. His proudest moments are seeing any of his athletes do well and achieve PBs at competitions. His advice to athletes is to be patient and don't specialise too early - you have a long time before you reach your peak as an athlete. Also, look after your core!

Athletics Coach - Sprints
Justin Hubbard
Justin has been involved with CATs on and off since he was 8 years old, and now competes as a Masters athlete alongside his coaching. His highest achievement was a silver medal for the 4x200m relay at the European Masters Championships in 2022, and he also picked up gold in the British Masters that year for 200m and a bronze in the 60m. He enjoys seeing his athletes gain confidence and develop as individuals and improve each year.

Coaching Assistant - Jumps / Sprints
Alison Bennett
Alison first got into athletics by taking her son to the Club. She spent too much time by the side of the long jump pit, started raking, and now she's coaching! He proudest achievement was winning Coach of the Year in 2023, noting that the girl who did anything to get out of PE at school would be shocked at her now! Her advice to athletes is that it's not about what anyone else does - it's you against you.

Coaching Assistant - MIddle Distance
Gráinne Hallahan
Gráinne came to athletics as an adult when she became interested in road running. Her daughters are members of the Club and she originally started as a Coaching Assistant to help with FUNdamentals, but now also coaches middle distance. The multidisciplinary approach to athlete development is a particular area of interest for Gráinne, and she also finds sports psychology interesting. Seeing athletes engage in their own athletic development is very rewarding: viewing the process as a journey and finding reward in training and small incremental developments, not just end results.

Coaching Assistant - Middle Distance
Chris Harvey
While Chris only played rugby at school, he watched his daughters having all the fun at CATs and wanted in! He loves cross country and road racing, and while he views track and field as a different beast altogether, he loves trying to beat his previous PBs and has bagged a few Club records along the way. An avid competitor, the most events he has participated in at one meeting is 9! He enjoys seeing the juniors he coaches progress and support each other, knowing that both in winning and losing they are building their resilience for the world outside.
